Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the white contrast artifact reduction filter of a new cone beam computed tomography software (CBCT) in root canal filling materials. Material and methods: Eighty-four mandibular molars were selected, prepared, filled and randomly distributed into 4 groups (n=21), corresponding to the filling materials: G1. Sealapex®; G2. AH Plus®; G3. Endofill®; G4. Bio C-sealer®. The mesiobuccal roots (MV) were cut mesiodistally using the microtome at 6mm from the root apex. Five markings on the surfaces of each sample were made after cutting (1 on the “Z” axis, 2 on the “X” axis and 2 on the “Y’ axis) for guidance during measurements of the filling materials and subsequent synchronization of the CBCT images. Following root canal fillings and root cutting, CBCTs were acquired using the Prexion 3D Elite®. Measurements of the dimensions of the filling materials were obtained in the mesiodistal and buccolingual directions using a digital micrometer associated with the operating microscope. The image measurements of the root canals filling materials of the mesial roots were performed with the linear measurement tool of the e-Vol DX software, configured for millesimal measurements with the Blooming Artefact Reduction (BAR 2) filter. Statistical data were evaluated with Van der Waerden's non-parametric analysis of variance, followed by Tukey's test applied to normalized data. Comparisons were performed in a significance level α = 5%. Results: The measurements of the filling materials using the e-Vol DX software and the digital micrometer did not show significant differences between them (p >0.05). Conclusion: The use of the BAR 2 filter of the e-Vol DX software removed the interference of white contrast artifact in CBCT images with root canal filling materials.
