O ethos discursivo em textos midiáticos sobre a educação

Our goal with this paper is to investigate the images of Education that are constructed and legitimized by the media in the discourses of Editora Abril. To get this aim, we used the concept of discursive ethos, that consists in the image itself that emerges from the discourse (MAINGUENEAU, 2008). Assuming that this publisher has tradition in the production of discourses on Education, we believe that people in general, including teachers, are usually based on these speeches to form their opinions about Education. Therefore, we analyzed the ethe enunciators of the speeches to see which values of the guarantors and discursive strategies are used by media discourse to construct the images of Education and also persuade the reader to join the Educar para crescer movement. For it was also necessary to consider the theory of genres of Mikhail Bakhtin, because we realize that the strategies and statements change themselves from gender to gender and according to the vehicular support, thus revealing the stability of the statements. As we consider these conditions for the construction of media discourse, with a view to building the image of education, our aims are: 1) to investigate the ethe revealed in newspaper articles printed in magazines, which ethe are revealed? 2) to realize by the enunciatives scenes which images about Education in Brazil are legitimized by the enunciator of discourse; what do they say about Education? 3) to raise the manner how is constituted the authority of the speaker that validates these discourses. Are there in these discourses indication culprit (s)? Thus, we decided to conduct a survey of one of the genres, the testimony of Education, published by Editora Abril in the campaign Educar para Crescer, categorizing the images constructed by the media. The work of data collection occurred between September 2008, the beginning of April's commitment to Education, and in September 2009. We conducted a qualitative interpretive analysis using some concepts of the media themselves as guides Charaudeau (2006), the ways and operation strategies of the ideology of Guareschi and Biz (2005). With regard to reading, we use some concepts of Discourse Analysis (AD) and other related theoretical. Our analysis of the texts allows us to say that the media construct at least three more recurrent images about Education: that the family is not participating actively in the school life of their children; that the school and the study is the only guarantee for social, professional and better wages and therefore became a safe investment, and that the quality of education still depends on the skill and dedication of the teacher. We believe that this research is relevant in helping the official agencies, in some way, to reflect about their role in the educational process, both to modify Education, thus, consequently, improving its image, since media will always be present.
