Objective: To evaluate the interference of dental ceramics in the measurement of systemic oxygen saturation in the finger using a pulse oximeter. Materials and method: Thirty samples of Ips e.max lithium disilicate ceramic, of low, medium, and high translucency in thicknesses 2.0 ± 0.5mm and 4.0 ± 0.5mm, glazed on one side and blasted with oxide aluminum on the other. Using the BCI 3301 portable pediatric pulse oximeter, an initial reading of the participant's oxygen saturation (SaO2) and heart rate (bpm) was performed, at rest, in the little finger (Control group). Waited 30 seconds after reading stabilization to record the data. Then, the ceramic samples were interposed between the finger and the pulse oximeter sensor, with the glaze side positioned towards the light emitting source, and again the data were collected (Experimental groups). Statistical analysis was performed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences software, version 20 (SPSS, Chicago, IL). The mean and standard deviation of SaO2 were calculated and the Mann-Whitney test was applied, considering significant p values < 0.05. Results: The mean of SaO2 obtained in the control group was 97.3 ± 0.58%. In the low translucency group, the mean SaO2 was 97.8% ± 0.45 for both thicknesses and in the medium translucency group with a thickness of 2.0 ± 0.5mm it was 98 ± 0.0%, and with thickness of 4.0 ± 0.5mm was 97.6% ± 0.55. In the high translucency group with a thickness of 2.0 ± 0.5mm it was 97.8 ± 0.45%, and with a thickness of 4.0 ± 0.5mm it was 97.4 ± 0.55%. There was no significant difference between the means of SaO2 of the Control Group and the experimental ones (p >0.05). Conclusion: The thickness and translucency of Ips e.max lithium disilicate dental ceramics, placed between the finger and the sensor, did not interfere in the measurement of oxygen saturation recorded by the pulse oximeter.
