Resumo
This thesis examines the role of networks and Geographical Indication (GI) in promoting the sustainable development of coffee cultivation in the Cerrado Mineiro Region, integrating economic, social, environmental, and institutional aspects. Organized in the article-based thesis format, the investigation employs a qualitative and exploratory approach that combines systematic literature review, document analysis, international comparative study, and the proposal of applied indicators. Article 1 conducts a systematic review, based on the PRISMA protocol, which maps the trends, gaps, and potential of GIs in the agrifood context. Article 2 analyzes the international network for the protection of GIs and its effects on the competitiveness of Cerrado Mineiro. Article 3 examines how the Cerrado Mineiro Denomination of Origin (DO) impacts the consolidation of other coffee GIs in Brazil, while identifying governance models and territorial valorization strategies. Article 4 proposes indicators and approaches aimed at strengthening the DO, encompassing sustainable practices, productive inclusion, and market diversification. The results demonstrate that geographical and hybrid networks consolidate the reputation, innovation, and competitive insertion of Cerrado Mineiro coffee. However, challenges remain concerning the inclusion of small producers, access to credit, and adaptation to climate change. The central contribution of the thesis lies in articulating, within a single framework, the dimensions of GIs, networks, and sustainability, providing practical and theoretical foundations for the development of public policies and territorial management strategies.
