Cápsulas de verdade: Política e cultura visual do masculinismo red pill

Abstract

In recent years, there has been a noticeable increase in violent attacks on social media targeted at minority groups, such as Black individuals, LGBTQIAPN+ people, and women, the latter being the focus of this study. These attacks are frequently disseminated through memes and images associated with the red pill movement. This study seeks to understand how these images transcend the digital environment, influencing perceptions and constructions of gender. The objective is to analyze a corpus of 125 images from the perspective of visual culture. To this end, a methodology based on visual ethnography is adopted. The defense and glorification of violence against women manifest in both the images and the comments they generate, highlighting how gender performativities are produced, among other factors, through the demarcation of differences between men and women.
