Instaurar a Crisálida: arte em crochê entre o público e o digital

Abstract

This research investigates the instauration of a crochet artwork in the public space of the city of Goiânia, Brazil, using this process as a basis for reflecting on the relationships between textile practices, digital cultures, and contemporary modes of art-making. The artwork is understood not as a finished object but as a relational process constituted through the interplay of materiality, body, space, institutions, and technical mediations. The methodology combines artistic research, through operative concepts, with interviews conducted with textile artists and the observation of crochet practices on digital social media, examining how knowledge and techniques circulate and are transformed in these environments. The study also compiles and systematizes an extensive qualitative corpus of these observations, presented in the appendices as an integral part of the research field. As crochet is displaced into public space and mediated by digital technologies, it ceases to function merely as a technique and becomes a language capable of reconfiguring modes of artistic production, circulation, and experience. The instauration of the artwork demonstrates that negotiations, disputes, and conditions inherent to public space—where political tensions operate as part of the relational process—actively participate in its constitution, configuring a network of relationships in which different mediations operate together.
