A repressão aos estudantes, professores e funcionários na Universidade Federal de Goiás durante a ditadura militar (1964-1979)

Abstract

The research aims specially to understand the historical context where the repressive apparatus instituted by the military regime was developed and how it acted within the Federal University of Goiás. Therefore, to comprehend how the Brazilian military coup was inserted, we seek first to understand the development process of monopolistic capitalism in Brazil from the 1950s. After the military coup, the government undertakes a repressive escalation against opposition groups. “Leftists” students, professors and university-affiliated officials were among the leading groups that were opposite to the dictatorship and dared to contest it. That is why the second step represents an attempt to grasp the size of the national and regional left- wing student movement since the military regime’s media have ostensibly guard the universities. With the growing number of anti-authoritarian groups in force, outstandingly after 1968, the government sought to institutionalize repression. The Institutional Act Nº. 5 is one of the results of this policy, but inside the universities, the most essential weapon used by the government to push the “subversives” away from the place responsible for ranging the country’s intellectual, economic, and political elites was the implementation of Decree Law Nº. 477. The Security and Information Advisory Offices were also intelligence agencies created inside the universities to oversee the academic community, responsible for guiding even the hiring of teachers. In conclusion, we equally describe how the military government planned to maintain “ideology control” within universities. Consequently, we were capable to point out which were the students, teachers and officials linked to the UFG who were persecuted and/or punished, as well as clarify what were the justifications presented by the military regime for the performance of such acts and capture how the repressive organs monitored the left-wing inside the UFG.
