Paulo de Figueiredo e a Revista Oeste (1942- 1944): cultura e política em Goiás

Abstract

The objective of this research is to develop an analysis of the cultural scenario of the intellectuals and literati who made up the bureaucratic public machine in Goiânia during the regime established by Vargas on November 10, 1937, emphasizing the space for the production of ideas, which was the Revista Oeste (1942-1944), a monthly periodical, which served as an ideological instrument of the Estado Novo (1937-1945), welcoming the young intelligentsia who effectively collaborated with the production and organization of the magazine that circulated for a period of three years in Goiânia . The aim is to understand the intellectual field of press organization based on the political performance of this intellectuality, focusing on the institutional trajectory of Paulo de Figueiredo, who was responsible for creating the magazine, considering the influence he had in the role of ideologue and publicist of authoritarian and centralizing administration in the Vargas government. Since the research intends to present other intellectuals, of equal relevance, in order to assert how this category of intellectuals, heir to the ruling classes, collaborated to build a scenario of valuing meanings, which at first saw themselves as responsible for the project of the progressive ideal of change and modernization – Goiânia – as a work carried out by a policy that manifested itself against the power of the old oligarchies of Goiás. Having, in this way, significant importance in the implementation of the nationalist policy that entered the political and sociocultural scenario of Goiás through the published speeches in the West Magazine.
