Cartografias em transição: mapas vivenciais de travestis em Goiânia

Abstract

This research stems from the intention to develop maps that help to think about ways of narrating lived space, paying attention to themes and subjects that are normally “silenced” in conventional maps, such as transvestites. To this end, the general objective was established to develop an alternative cartography to the hegemonic cartographic models on the life experiences of transvestites living in Goiânia, using unconventional languages and means of graphic expression. To this end, in addition to the bibliographic survey, we will follow a geocartographic approach with adaptations from other methodologies, such as Decolonial Alternative Cartographies, based on Social Cartography and Iconoclast studies. In this way, it became possible to explore the life stories of three transvestites residing in Goiânia, relating the times, spaces, and mobilities of their pasts in their cities of origin until arriving in Goiânia, their present experiences in the capital, and their plans and projects for the future. The results indicate that the knowledge about urban space produced by transvestites generates new readings of Goiânia and, with them, other representations capable of revealing their drifts, locations, and mobilities, as well as their uses and meanings.
