Resumo

This research examines the relationship between Goiânia’s Art Déco heritage and art education, investigating how this architectural style—often associated with ideals of modernity—reflects colonial structures that persist in the teaching of visual arts. Drawing on experiences from mandatory teaching internships in peripheral schools (2022–2024) and a critical analysis of curricula (BNCC and DC-GO). Developed through applied research (Lima & Souza, 2022), the study aims to understand how the official narrative surrounding the Art Déco movement silences its non-European influences, thus perpetuating hegemonic power structures. As a contribution, it presents an educational proposal based on the "Mirror Method," created by the author, which seeks to establish critical dialogues between architectural heritage and urban visualities. The findings point to the need to deconstruct aesthetic hierarchies within art curricula, transforming monuments into starting points for reflections on cultural identity. The research concludes that preserving Goiânia’s Art Déco requires re-signifying it as a space where institutional memory and urban narratives meet—allowing students to recognize themselves both in historical architecture and in the artistic expressions of their own territories.
