A cartografia sensorial dos aromas do centro de Goiânia

Resumo

The aim of this article is to map the aromas of downtown Goiânia (GO). It was based on the idea of problematizing the meanings of this spatiality in the processes of mapping urban landscapes. These reflections were anchored in the perspective of sensory cartographies that allow access to other ways of mapping landscapes, such as using the sense of smell, thus transcending the realm of visibility. To this end, fieldwork was carried out in the central area of the city, along a 2.4km route, recording aromasin 42 locations. Thefinal data was classified into 3 categories: “Pleasant aromas”, “Aromas of nature” and “Unpleasant aromas”, which were then represented on a traditional cartographic base and also modeled using Coremas. The results highlight the possibility of revealing an olfactory landscape, which varied from pleasant or nature aromas in the southern part of the route, to unpleasant aromas in the northern part, as a reflection of the different forms of use and appropriation of urban spaces. Through these other “lenses”, we can enrich the information on the perception of the city and generate new inputs for its management.
