Resumo

This final undergraduate project analyzes the attire of Gercina Borges Teixeira, the First Lady of Goiás, within the context of the founding of Goiânia in the 1930s. The main objective is to investigate how her way of dressing, with a particular focus on the use of the tailleur (women's suit) , functioned as a tool for constructing her public image and how it dialogued with the ideal of modernity of the new capital. The methodology is based on the iconographic analysis , grounded in Erwin Panofsky's methods , of photographs from the collection of the Museum of Image and Sound of Goiás (MIS￾GO) and from family archives. This analysis is supplemented by a bibliographic review of the history of Goiás and fashion history , as well as interviews. The results indicate that Dona Gercina used the tailleur consciously and strategically , aligning her image with that of the national elite and projecting seriousness, authority, and elegance. It is concluded that her attire transcended the private sphere, consolidating itself as a visual language of legitimacy, status, and political representation.
