Resumo
Objective: The objective of this study is to present the scientific evidence regarding the effects and implementation of yoga practice programmes in the management of psychological stress in university students. Methodology: This is an integrative review of the literature conducted using the electronic databases PubMed, LILACS, Web of Science and PEDro. Results/Discussion: A total of ten articles were selected for discussion. It was evident that the practice of yoga represents a cost-effective approach to the management of student stress. The most frequently occurring modality in the literature is Hatha Yoga. Despite the significance of this finding, the effect size of the interventions for stress varied from moderate to small. Further research is required to determine the optimal intensity and proportion of movements and meditation, as these factors may influence the efficacy of the intervention. Final Considerations: The incorporation of yoga into the academic curriculum may prove an efficacious strategy for the management of stress associated with higher education.
