Este trabajo objetiva identificar qué lugar ocupa la religión en el consumo mediático y cultural de las comunidades gitanas de Cataluña. Empezaremos con un debate teórico enfocando en la relación de la población gitana de España con el catolicismo y el pentecostalismo. Seguidamente, analizaremos de qué manera contenidos religiosos han sido mencionados en el consumo mediático y cultural de 22 gitanos y gitanas, residentes en la provincia de Barcelona. El trabajo de campo ha sido desarrollado entre 2016 y 2019, incluyendo la realización de entrevistas semi-estructuradas. Entre los resultados, destacamos que la práctica religiosa no es determinante en este consumo, pero sí lo influye, especialmente por las vivencias compartidas en el espacio de la iglesia y en el círculo familiar yde amistad. Mientras los hombres se interesan más por consumir contenidos religiosos, las mujeres demuestran más interés por la socialización en las actividades en el culto.
This paper aims to reflect on the role of religion in media and cultural consumption by the Romani communities from Catalonia. We will begin with a theoretical debate focusing on the relation of the Romani population from Spain with catholicism and pentecostalism. Following, we will analyze how religious contents were mentioned in media and cultural consumption by 22 Romani people, living in Barcelona province. The fieldwork was developed between 2016 and 2019, including semi-structured interviews. Among the results, we highlight that religious practice is not determinant in this consumption, but influences it, especially by shared experiences in church and with the family and friends. While men are more interested in the consumption of religious contents, women show more interest in socialization in the church.
