Abstract

This article investigates the centrality of communication in the analysis of political processes and the formation of citizenship, adopting a critical theorical approach. Based on Habermas’s theories, such as the Theory of Communicative Action and the Theory of the Public Sphere, it examines how communication influences citizen participation, the formation of public opinion, and power dynamics in contemporary democracies. It also analyzes the role of traditional and digital media in social mobilization and political engagement, highlighting how these media shape perceptions and attitudes. Additionally, it explores how communicative practices can reinforce or challenge power structures, considering inequalities in access to information. The article proposes policies and practices to promote more inclusive and democratic communication, contributing to the strengthening of citizenship and democratic processes.
