Resumo
This paper proposes an analysis of music in the narrative construction of the film "Jaws" (1975), focusing on the Empty Raftscene. Using the concept of “Acousmêtre”, formulated by Michel Chion (2008), the study demonstrates how the music, composed by John Williams, goes beyond the conventional function and becomes a hidden character, actively interacting with the visual and dramatic elements of the scene. The methodology consists of an analysis of the scene, with emphasis on the musical elements melody, harmony, rhythm, orchestration and instrumentation, and their articulation with the other film components, in order to identify the mechanisms by which the music becomes an autonomous character. In conclusion, the paper demonstrates that music, from the perspective of the Acousmêtre assumes features of a character, interacting with the other elements of the scene in an active and significant way in the construction of the narrative.
