En este artículo abordamos el estilo y la narrativa en la película A.I.: Inteligencia Artificial (2001), dirigida por Steven Spielberg, con el fin de relacionar el texto narrativo con un análisis específico de sus aspectos estilísticos, para comprender cómo el director utiliza el estilo para mostrar las transformaciones del personaje a lo largo de la narrativa. De este modo, distinguimos dos condiciones diferentes de David: primero como un niño robot y también como la primera inteligencia artificial capaz de experimentar emociones cuando es activada. Estas dos condiciones se muestran en la mise en scène. Observamos que la motivación compositiva enmarca a David en formas circulares y en reflejos que fragmentan o superponen su imagen con otras. Por lo tanto, los elementos estilísticos analizados que conforman la forma de la película contribuyen, respectivamente, al significado implícito de su viaje como un ser angelical y para demostrar cómo la máquina es capaz de absorber y procesar conocimiento.
In this article, we address style and narrative in the film A.I.: Artificial Intelligence (2001), directed by Steven Spielberg, in order to relate the narrative text to a specific analysis of its stylistic aspects, seeking to understand how the director uses style to depict the character’s transformations throughout the narrative. In this regard, we distinguish two different conditions of David: first as a robot child and also as the first artificial intelligence capable of experiencing emotions when activated. These two conditions are presented through the mise en scène. We observe that the compositional motivation frames David in circular forms and in reflections that fragment or overlap his image with others. Thus, the analyzed stylistic elements that shape the film’s form contribute, respectively, to the implicit meaning of his journey as an angelic being and to demonstrating how the machine is capable of absorbing and processing knowledge.
