Resumo

Bacurau, written and directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho and Juliano Dornelles, tells the story of a town invaded by a group of foreigners, whose population needs to protect itself from the threat. The film was released in 2019, in a context of political effervescence and traces several dialogues with the Brazilian reality. The objective of this article is to understand how the director’s mobilized elements of the lived cultures in the writing of the script and specifically in the construction of the character Tony Jr, the local mayor. To this end, we ask ourselves: how does the Brazil’s sociopolitical scenario appears in Bacurau (2019) through the character Tony Jr.? As a theoretical-methodological procedure, the research is guided by the Circuit of Culture, more specifically the moments of production, text and lived cultures. Based on the analysis, we note that the directors use the unusual as a critique of the political context experienced at the time.
