Resumo
In this brief essay, I have analyzed a short film named 15 filhos (fiften children), directed by Marta
Nehring and Maria Oliveira, released in 1996. I work with the assumption that, by revisiting the recent
past, sons and daughters of activists who fought against the Brazilian military dictatorship elaborate a
view that expose the tensions and paradoxes of a collective effort to rescue their memories, as they
politicize the world of affections while showing their personal recollections of the political landscape.
The methodology utilized prioritized the review of the visual and sound materials featured in the short
film, bringing the aesthetical choices closer to ethical and political issues. In conclusion, I have pointed
out that the documentary provides ways to reflect both on the processes of subjective construction
arising from the artistic material as well as on the current struggles and contentions around the past.
