Entre o científico e o comum: a comunicação da ciência em museus e em centros de ciências

Abstract

This monograph investigates the complex task of cultural and communicational mediation carried out by museums and science centers, seeking to understand how these essentially communicational institutions adapt specialized scientific language to make it accessible to a diverse public and, thus, promote the democratization of knowledge. The work stems from a personal concern of the author, who, as a communication advisor for the Pátio da Ciência extension project at the Universidade Federal de Goiás (UFG), recognizes that the mere dissemination of science is not enough; an exchange of understandings that coordinates the scientific and the common is necessary, using communicational strategies to coordinate comprehension. The relevance of this investigation lies in the centrality of these spaces as powerful tools in continuous literacy and in promoting a scientific culture that contributes to the communicational process of citizenship under construction. From a methodological point of view, this research is characterized as a theoretical study, based on a bibliographic review and conceptual/content analysis, consulting and analyzing reference works in the areas of communication theory, linguistics, science, technology, and society (STS) studies, scientific dissemination, and museology. The conclusion signals the existence of a hybrid form of language, the communication of science, a "middle ground" between science and common sense, with functional similarities to journalistic language, which facilitates the critical appropriation of knowledge by the public, boosting an enlightened communicational citizenship.
