Item Avaliação da ação residual do larvicida temephós sobre o aedes aegypti (Diptera, Culicidae) em diferentes tipos de recipientes(Ruy de Souza Lino Junior, 1998-06) Camargo, Marlene de Fátima; Santos, Adelair Helena dos; Oliveira, Antônio Wilson Soares de; Abrão, Newdvar; Alves, Rosa de Belém das Neves; Isac, ElianaThe action of the larvicide Temephos over the Aedes aegypti was evaluated by means of a test using two concentrations of the product: l ppm (400 mg/ml) and 2 ppm (800 mg/ml). They were distributed in 6 different containers: a tire, a clay vase, an aluminum bowl, a glass aquarium, a plastic bowl and an asbestos tank, ali bearing a volume of 4 liters. Each recipien received 20 larvae of 3rd stage, which were evaluated 24 hours after exposure to the product and shortly after being removed from the solution. The same solution was preserved for 14 weeks and the larvae examined every 7 days. The pesticide's residual action was evaluated by the larvae mortality. Ali the recipients had a 100% efficacy throughout the testing period, in both concentrations. At the 400 mg/ml larvicide Temephos concentration in the "tire" recipient, the mortality rate decreased by 45% after the 5 week. Similarly, at the 800 mg/ml concentration in the same recipient, the mortality rate decreased by 40% after the 7lh week and by the end of the trial, no mortality was noted.Item Controle de criadouros dos vetores de dengue e da febre amarela urbana na cidade de Goiânia, com participação popular(Ruy de Souza Lino Junior, 1999-08) Santos, Adelair Helena dos; Camargo, Marlene de Fátima; Silva, Elizabeth Araújo e; Abrão, Newdvar; Alves, Rosa de Belém das Neves; Isac, ElianaA survey was carried out by the National Health Foundation in the city of Goiania, dueto the need ofmonítoring the ínfestation leveis of Aedes aegypti and/or Aedes albopictus,. Thirty neighborhoods were chosen, and of these, 11 % of the domiciles were surveyed. A. aegypti was present in ali researched areas, whereas A. albopictus was found in only one neighborhood (Balnearío Meia Ponte), what represente d the first report on the presence of thís specíes ín the city of Goiania. The most frequently found habitats were bottles, tin cans and plastic containers (30,4%), tires (21,5%), plant pots (16,1%), engine parts (9,6%), and building materiais (9,1%). The detection of A. aegypti larvae in these habitats reflects the ímportance of focusing prevention campaigns on the proper disposal of urban waste. This study showed that the community plays an important role on limiting the availability of A. aegypti habitats.
