Nursing involves multiple categories and activities. Selection of staff accounts for admission of professionals with appropriate job expertise. The study aims at identifying the profile of nursing technicians (NT) at a university hospital in the Brazilian Midwest. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire applied between February and July, 2008 by the researcher in the hospital unit. The sample consisted of 185 NT. Out of the total sample, 57.80% cited job security as an influential factor in the choice of the institution as a workplace. As a factor of dissatisfaction, the structure of the unit came up with 60%. The NT interested in joining a university hospital must develop skills to acquire a comprehensive view of the whole and to meet the needs of the Single Health System, education, care and health research. The results presented can help managers redefine the recruiting process.Item Enfermeiros de um hospital universitário: evidências do processo de seleção(2012-06) Paranaguá, Thatianny Tanferri de Brito; Bezerra, Ana Lúcia Queiroz; Branquinho, Nayla Cecília Silvestre da Silva; Souza, Wilzianne Ramalho; Abraão, Stefany RezendeThe study compared the characteristics of nurses selected before and after 2004 at a university hospital. In this descriptive, exploratory study, conducted at a university hospital in Brazil’s Midwest region, 81 nurses answered a selfadministered questionnaire between February and August 2008. It was found that the change from a centralized to a decentralized selection process did not affect the quality of the personnel selected, noting that professional qualification is one of the main requirements to work in a university hospital. The study fostered feedback for other selection process instances for people management in nursing and health care.Item Processo de seleção de enfermeiros de um hospital de ensino da região centro-oeste brasileira(2010-09) Branquinho, Nayla Cecília Silvestre da Silva; Bezerra, Ana Lúcia Queiroz; Abraão, Stefany Rezende; Paranaguá, Thatianny Tanferri de Brito; Ramalho, Wilzianne SilvaA descriptive exploratory study conducted at a state-owned hospital in the Brazilian Mid-West. It aims at analyzing the selection process and skills required from the perspective of the nurses who went through the process. The sample population consisted of sixty-eight nurses who had worked at that institution from their admission to 2004, when the selection process was streamlined. The subjects went through an interview based on a structured questionnaire. Results showed the majority (60.2%) of nurses had had a degree for 20 years. 54.4% stated that the selection process must change, and 25% suggested the primary skill for admission to the staff of a university hospital is the acquisition of expertise in several areas, for better care and diagnosis of the environment around them. Conclusions show the importance of management skills for the balance of the organization and the high quality of recruitment and selection.
