The retinoid therapy seeks to control the overproduction of sebum, follicular hyperkeratinization, bacterial colonization and local inflammation. The aim of this paper is excerpt essential information from the literature about retinoids used to treat acne vulgaris, thereby providing an systematic study of the therapeutic approach in several forms. The use of retinoids drugs as first choice in the treatment of acne is due to proven effectiveness improving non-inflammatory and inflammatory acneic lesions. From detailed analyzes of studies conducted between topical retinoids, adapalene and tazarotene stood out for presenting often, better cutaneous tolerability and greater adherence of treatment. The systemic treatment isotretinoin presents itself as first choice.
