Since the invention of the Seventh Art, the librarian has been shown in widescreens all over the world, with a steep increase from the 1980s. But how is this professional portrayed by Cinema? Is his/her image depicted in a true or in a stereotyped way? Answering these questions was the objective of this study. For that, 120 (one hundred and twenty) movies were analyzed, by using the extensive direct method, with percentages used to express results, under the sociocultural approach. Besides using typical features for the immediate identification of librarians, the data found reveal that Cinema is not the main responsible for spreading a stereotyped image of that professional.
