Avaliação do suco ruminal de bovinos “a fresco” e após 12 horas de conservação

Resumo

This research had as objective to analyze the physical (color, smell, consistance and sedimentation/flotation test - TAS), chemicals (pH and methylene blue reduction test) and biological aspects (in vitro protozoa examination, infusoria counts and percentual of living protozoa) of ruminal fluid from 50 adult and healthy females Girolando cows imediately after and 12 hours after collection and storage in vacuum bottle. The animals were in lactation period and grazing Brachiaria decumbens. The samples of ruminal fluid contained nearly 400 ml and were collected through Schambye and Sorensen esophageal probe. The results were statiscally analyzed through descriptive statistic and “t” test (P<0.05). Although the first evaluation of ruminal fluid was normal for physical aspects, in vitro evalution of infusoria counts, and for the number of protozoa per ml after 12 hours, some alterations were verified. Significant differences were observed in decreasing of pH, percentual of live protozoa and increasing in the time of methylene blue reduction test. Therefore the thermal bottle is a good option to conserve ruminal fluid but betler results can be found when the ruminal fluid is analyzed immediately after the collection.
