Resumo
This study was performed with the newspaper ‘Diário da Manhã’, to
verify the number of texts in the genre ‘article’, starting a new position of
the ‘Caderno Opinião Pública’ a Section of Public Opinion, in January
of 2011, when the news paper proposed to establish itself as an opinative
publication. What we could verify, was the existence of a large quantity
of opiniated articles produced by people in the society, that developed an
idea, and presented their opinion, but not the existence of an interpretative
journalism, intended to show the readers the background of whatever
is happening. Our unit of measurement was the centimeter per column,
and the calculation was based on the total of pages published in March
of 2011. We analyzed the following categories: Code, Function, Origin,
and Production. Our objective was to verify the space that the publication
dedicated to the society, taking into consideration that this publication
works as a source of data and information to society, but that it rarely lets
the society express its own opinions. Upon opening space to the ideas of
people that do not work to the publication, the newspaper gives a voice to
the society, reaching one of its main principles: to establish the creation
of a Public Opinion.
