Resumo

Dance classes, despite being part of society since the 1970s, began to have greater relevance from the 2000s onwards. This growth in visibility in the area led to an increase in the number of workers involved in teaching dance. This leads us to think about the living and working conditions of these professionals. Focusing on this subject, only one work was found that addressed the life situation of these professionals. To understand more about the subject, we went to the field and for this purpose, this work interviewed 5 fitness dance teachers in the cities of Goiânia and Aparecida de Goiânia, some licensed in class programs such as Zumba and FitDance, others who work without being licensed in any program. In order to analyze the characteristics of this professional group, the interviews were transcribed and analyzed. Based on the answers, we can classify the living and working conditions of these professionals as regular, a condition described by them, presenting a contradiction of feeling exploited in their services with conditions that are often precarious, low wages, and they often have to extend their working days for more than one place giving classes, or even extending into other functions, other than dancing; but despite such exploration, they feel happy working with dance, the passion of most of them, and they feel grateful to be able to work and bring the well-being they bring to their students. A question that deserves analysis is how far is it worth working for the love of the profession even in unfavorable conditions, being part of a system that exploits them day after day? Is it also important to question how the coronavirus pandemic affects the lives of dance teachers? And what to expect from the present and the near future with the increasing precariousness of work during pandemic capitalism.
