Resumo
This survey assessed the feasibility of introducing quality labels for the coffee produced
in the state of Goiás, based on the expansion of the specialty coffee market, proven quality of
product as compared with the Cerrado Mineiro coffee, and its increased participation in the agenda of the
State's exports. Information was raised from interviews with farmers, industrialists and the state’s accrediting
agencies: Specialty Coffee Association of America and Specialty Coffee Association of Brazil. The
analysis of financial-economic data and of the constraints to certification allowed discussing bottlenecks
and possibilities of adjusting production and processing for quality. The study concluded for a cost benefit
of 36% for trading pulped natural and 19% for the hard bean or green types. Growers from Goias received
R$1,76 of net margin for the former and of R$0,95 for the latter types. Therefore, it is feasible to
add value to these types of coffee for the geographical indication label “Goiano Cerrado Coffee”.
