Resumo
The central objective of this article is to discuss how the interaction with Monica’s Gang comic books (CBs) can trigger intercultural dialogues in English as a foreign language/culture in its learning-teaching context. This paper is mainly grounded on intercultural studies regarding foreign language classroom as well as on the Bakhtinian interactionist and dialogical perspective. Data were generated through a reading extension course, on Monica’s Gang comics, offered at a state public school in Goiania, Goiás. They revealed that interactions and intercultural dialogues triggered by comic books reading led participants to recognize other cultural contexts and to rethink their own cultures; these intercultural dialogues also encouraged moments of reflection about cultural stereotypes and monolithic points of view.
