Resumo
The seeds bank represents an important indicative of regeneration power in de‐
graded areas. This way the work aimed to analyze the natural regeneration power from a seeds
bank. The work has been carried out in a degraded area at Mocambo Park, in Patos de Minas,
Minas Gerais, Brazil. The study area was divided in three subareas according to the vegetation
and terrain physiognomic differences. In each plot soil samples were collected in three different
points and in three depths (0 a 10 cm, 10 a 20 cm e 20 a 30 cm). Half the amount was kept under
the light irradiation and the amount left on the dark, during a period of 150 days. Floristic sur‐
vey of all the area was carried out. Statistical analysis was performed through residual analysis
of data, making comparisons among means, by using the standard deviation. From the floristic
survey it was possible to notice similar vegetation in the three areas. As for the seeds bank we
obtained an overall of 192 emergencies. The surface sample soil (0 to 10 cm), obtained the big‐
gest emergence. The botanic family Compositae showed the biggest species number. We con‐
clude that seeds bank is dominated by pioneer herbaceous species, and that the study area pre‐
sents viable seeds so as to compound the seeds bank, but in low quantity.
