Resumo

This work is part of a research plan that aims to construct an analytical framework for STS Education (Science-Technology-Society) research in Brazil, based on Pierre Bourdieu's notion of field. It analyzes the social and symbolic conditions that enabledthe emergence of a particular illusio–a “disinterested” interest –within the space of Science Education research, still under construction between the 1980s and 1990s. The analyses presented describe the state of the struggles that the pioneers of CTS Education research initially faced andthe social conditions that made such investments a possible bet, until later consolidating themselves as a legitimate object of Science Education research, support the relative success of the symbolic revolution that gave rise to the so-called Brazilian Subfield of CTS Education Research.
