dc.description.abstractThis article aims at reflecting on some representations about the native speaker of English and the non-native speaker so that we can realize the discourse practices of a teacher of English and his students, which reveal their perceptions upon this dichotomy. Based on the features of an ethnographic research, we could observe that three learners showed themselves aware of their legitimacy as speakers of English. However, it is still possible to notice among the participants under investigation the perception which implies that the native speaker of English is superior. Thus, the teacher and students’ discourse practices point to the urgency in discussing and questioning this dichotomy in the English language classroom in order to clarify who the owner of the English language is.pt_BR
dc.description.resumoEste estudo pretende refletir sobre algumas representações em torno do falante nativo de inglês e do falante não-nativo para que, dessa forma, possamos compreender as práticas discursivas de um professor de inglês e seus alunos, as quais são reveladoras de suas percepções acerca dessa dicotomia. Com base nas diretrizes da pesquisa de cunho etnográfico, observamos que três aprendizes se revelaram conscientes de sua legitimidade como falantes de inglês. No entanto, ainda é possível evidenciar entre os membros da sala de aula investigada a percepção de que o falante nativo de inglês é superior ao não-nativo. Nesse sentido, as práticas discursivas de professor e alunos nos apontam para a urgência de discussões que problematizem essa dicotomia no contexto da sala de aula de inglês como L2/LE a fim de esclarecer quem de fato é possuidor da língua inglesa.pt_BR
