Abstract

What shifts can contact with the academic and artistic productions of transgender and travesti people promote? This question gave rise to the Art in Transition Study Group, which met in two cycles between April and October 2025 at the School of Visual Arts of the Goiás State Secretariat of Culture (EAV/SECULT-GO). Over eight meetings, we discussed theoretical and practical works developed by transgender and travesti people across various artistic languages and, based on these, produced creative responses. This process culminated in the organization of the exhibition “transmutations”. To deepen the reflections on the research question, we invited a group of high school students to visit the exhibition and participate in a drawing and writing workshop entitled “What Would I Like to Transmute?”, facilitated by members of the Art in Transition Study Group. This text, which is part report, part experiment, is divided into two sections, each consisting of two chapters. In the first part (comprising the chapters “Group” and “Encounters”), I focus on showing how these shifts were promoted through both the proposal of the Art in Transition Study Group and its encounter with the high school students. In the second part (comprising the chapters “Manifesto” and “Shifts”), I aim to demonstrate what these shifts were, presenting statements that emerged from the dialogues we had during these experiences and reflecting on them.
