Resumo

One of the best known characteristics of languages of the Tupi-Guarani family is the active-stative system, characterized by the division of the intransitive verbs class into two semantically determined subclasses: the active intransitive verbs and the stative intransitive verbs Klimov (1974), Seki (1987, 2000). How does a typologically rare system among the languages of the world behave in a situation of intense linguistic contact, such as the one that results in Linguistic replacement? To answer this question, the present article presents research results of three contemporary varieties from Nheengatu, in three regions of the state of Amazonas / AM: Upper Rio Negro; Middle Solimões River and Middle Amazon River, where there are speakers with different degrees of proficiency. As a result, we observe a continuum in which the presence of more conservative characteristics is linked to the replaced languages. The theoretical foundation of the research is linguistic typology with combined with an ethnographically based methodology for data collection in the three researched regions.
