Resumo

The lack of compliance to hypertensive treatment is the major challenge for all professionals who work and in- vestigate this area. Raises costs and cardiovascular risks because of the poor control of blood pressure (BP). Many theories willing to explain and guide forms to commit the patient with a chronic disease with his own care, were developed with enthusiasm, without otherwise being able to explain most of the situations and justify the low compli- ance to treatment. The “educational”, “believe in health”, “stimulus to emotion”, “behavioral” and “self-regulation” models, each one with it particular point of view explained partially the causes of non compliance. The studies of abandon hypertensive treatment are different for deal- ing with various factors that lead to a non compliance behavior: the patient, the disease, the treatment and the relation health care provider-patient. Until now, despite all the attempts, final explanations and solutions to this problem were not found. There are strong data showing that the relation among doctor and patient might be the key element in facing this problem, that when solved will come up with a better control in BP levels and a lower cardiovascular morbidity and mortality.
