Resumo

This project aims to study systems for tracking vehicles that pass quality tests in an automotive industry. Traceability using IoT technologies for manufacturing contextualizes this project in the concepts of Industry 4.0. The implementation aims to obtain tools for better production management and quality control and adapt the processes to the Industry 4.0 parameters. The study development follows the following chronology: in the first stage, the objective was to map the improvement opportunities for the traceability of vehicles that go through the quality testing process. Then, the second step consisted of researching the existence and characteristics of the enabling technologies for the problem. Four technologies were analyzed for the application: RFID, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), LoRa and Ultra Wideband (UWB). The technologies were compared based on five performance indexes, namely: cost, reliability, flexibility, quality, and speed. In the third stage, the previous knowledge was gathered to elaborate the scope of the project. This step consisted of dimensioning and characterizing the monitoring areas, raising all possible status of the vehicles and, finally, defining the requirements of the solution. Subsequently, in the fourth phase, the objective was to study the impacts that the possible implementation would cause in the process of quality control of vehicles, this step consisted of an analysis to reduce the manpower dedicated to the activities and the cost reductions related. A fifth stage of the project would consist of performing a proof of concept (POC), although it has not yet been carried out, this stage had some initial developments that will be exposed. A brief study of the project's expansion opportunities and a brief analysis of grant programs is presented. Furthermore, this work addresses a discussion about the competition between new and established technologies. The main discussion revolves around the comparison between RFID technology and Real Time Location System (RTLS) technologies. It is verified that the technology eligibility criterion must be based on the widest scope and the least addition of activities for its respective operation, with the cost of implementation and operation being a decisive factor. Real-time monitoring is the best solution for monitoring process failures. BLE technology stands out in this competition. It is noteworthy that the lessons learned during the process contributed to modify the project planning.
