Resumo
This paper discusses the educational processes that take place in an Umbanda temple through
music, seeking to highlight the pedagogical functions employed in religion and their role in the
community as a social practice. We conducted a study of the liturgical material of this
institution, analyzing songs that express the colonial past and as stories of resistance from
enslaved peoples. From an intercultural educational perspective, we emphasize the importance
of knowledge for the formation of a more egalitarian society, in the sense of defending antiracist struggles and struggles against religious intolerance. Therefore, Umbanda music can
contribute to the study of educational processes in such a way that, by proposing to be in contact
with different cultures, it allows us acceptances that contribute to the activities of people's social
organization, reaffirming our differences and learning to respect them.
