Resumo
In the world, approximately 257 million individuals live with an infection by the hepatitis B virus (HBV) in chronic form. In Brazil, 247.890 confirmed cases of hepatitis B were confirmed in the period from 1999 to 2019, with rates of detection of 6,7/100.000 inhabitants in 2018, in which 0,3% of transmission were via occupation. Vaccination is a safe and efficient method of preventing HBV infection. The health professionals are some of main classes of risk, by dealing directly with patients and, once infected, they may become a source of infection for others individuals, even for the patients. The objective of the study was a qualitative review and analysis of the prevalence of the hepatitis B virus and the immunization coverage of Brazilian health professionals. The study methodology was analysis and comparison of data collected in the literature in the period between 2000 and 2020. It was verified that be prevalence rates for the anti-HBc marker varied from 0,1 up to 21,4%. About the vaccination coverage, the isolated anti-HBs rates were heterogeneous, varying between 28,8 to 92,7%. Even having a safe and effective vaccine against HBV, the high number of susceptible health professionals (absence of serological markers) still is surprising, in this review this standard was observed in up to 60,3% of professionals. It is concluded that the information, awareness and monitoring of these professionals is fundamental, aside from better orientation with respect to the importance of immunization against hepatitis B in these professionals and of other Brazilians.
