Potencial de uso de raças bovinas locais brasileiras: Curraleiro Pé-Duro e Pantaneiro

Resumo

Bovine breeds introduced in Brazil during the colonization are pointed out as resistant and well adapted to the region. They add up as important genetic resources to develop sustainable farming systems and food production. Keeping these breeds is more than a bare preservation approach. Local breeds are potential starting points do attend demands from specific and up growing markets. Among the strategies to conserve adapted breeds, protect biodiversity and promote added value opportunity, is the Geographic Indication enphasies, in a way that it may work to power up income and competiveness of local breed products. Differentiation and specialization of such products and systems may be the key.
