Resumo
When analyzing the complexity in which the situation of modern society presents itself,
marked by the conditions given by the current economic and social order that contemplate the
phenomenon of globalization, it is noticed the reconfiguration of relations in the context of
culture, politics and, consequently, of the education. In view of it, this introductory research
was designed with the aim of providing a theoretical reflection on the current issues of
modernity and its political, social and moral expressions that affect human relationships, as
well as their consequences in education. We sought to present the impacts of a merely
technical, superficial and lightened training, articulated to submit individuals to the marketing
logic, as opposed to a critical and reflective view of the fundamentals of education such as
Philosophy, History and Sociology, to think ethical-political education in the context of
modern culture. This research is essentially bibliographical in nature. Surveys of bibliographic
materials were carried out with the purpose of knowing the contribution of some theorists of
great relevance on the subject, analyzing concepts and articulating them with the current
context. Among the main authors consulted for this research are the Brazilian writer Milton
Santos (2001); Bauman, with his in-depth criticism of human and social relations in
modernity; Theodor W. Adorno (1995), with his work “Educação e Emancipação”; Ildeu
Coêlho, Demerval Saviani and others. The conclusions explain that education and school in
modern society basically fulfill the functions of providing merely technical training to meet
the demands of the labor market, while instilling and reproducing the dominant bourgeois
ideology. Thus, there is a need to break with education as a mere appropriation of technical
instruments, which aims only at market efficiency, rescuing the historical, social and critical
sense of education that consists, above all, of humanizing subjects, awakening them. Give
them the ability to make conscious decisions based on critical self-reflection, reason and
ethics, and at the same time prepare them for the concrete reality of life.
