Resumo

The present monograph consists of an investigation into the use of Comic Books in the development of readers, discussing how they can be utilized as resources in building the reading habit. Thus, the objective is to analyze and reflect on how comics serve as a viable didactic resource in the formation of readers. The study traverses the conception of reading and the development of its readers, as well as the historical trajectory of comics worldwide, in Brazil, and within school settings, through official educational guiding documents. This study, of a qualitative nature, is fundamentally based on bibliographic research and the analysis of results from case studies and surveys, utilizing the theoretical contributions of Ângela Kleiman (2005) and Rildo Cosson (2023) in defining reading and its elements, and the studies of Alexandre Barbosa (2004), Angela Rama (2004), Paulo Ramos (2009), Waldomiro Vergueiro (2009), among others, regarding visual narratives. Furthermore, there was also an analysis of research and case studies that demonstrate how the use of comics has been implemented. Therefore, upon the conclusion of this study, it was determined that the use of comic books in pedagogical practices, when planned and executed with intentionality by teachers, are effective means in establishing individuals who are readers of words, images, and the world around them, with a critical, aesthetic, social, and political sense
