Entre praças e parques: processo de formação do setor oeste em Goiânia

Abstract

The West Sector was formed in the decades following the inauguration of Goiânia and from the beginning stood out for unique characteristics that differentiate it in the urban context of the capital: strategic location, diversity of uses and expressive presence of public spaces. Despite its relevance, the history of the neighborhood remains fragmented, recorded in a dispersed way in documents, photographs, newspaper clippings and partial reports, composing a mosaic of incomplete information. In view of this scenario, this dissertation aims to reconstruct its historical trajectory and understand the process of formation, consolidation and its relevance in the urban context of Goiânia, using as a case study its public spaces, its squares and parks. The research adopted a qualitative approach, based on bibliographic, documentary and iconographic research, supported by the historical method and the case study. The investigation was developed in two stages: initially, the neighborhood was analyzed in its entirety, contemplating the origin, occupation and verticalization; then, the investigation was directed to four public spaces – Tamandaré Square, Sun Square, Buritis Forest and Lago das Rosas Park – and their edges, understood as transition zones between green spaces and the built fabric. The results demonstrate that the public spaces of the West Sector act as structuring elements of the urban landscape, revealing permanences and transformations that allow understanding the complexity of its current configuration. The research also showed that, although verticalization and population density have changed the urban fabric, the diversity of uses remains in the neighborhood, ensuring vitality and strengthening its urbanity. By articulating historical documentation, photographic records and morphological analysis, the dissertation reveals the West Sector as a historical space, of diverse uses and that provides quality of life for its inhabitants.
