Resumo
This research sought to understand the reality of Physical Education in the city of Iporá, located
214 kilometers from the capital Goiânia, in the state of Goiás. The interest in the research
originated from personal concerns that arose over the years as a Physical Education student
and, later, as a teacher in the area. To understand this reality, we sought to analyze the concept
of work from a dialectical perspective, seeking to relate work and teaching work in Physical
Education. The methodology used was textual analysis, in addition to an exploratory study with
the application of questionnaires and interviews. It was possible to understand that Physical
Education in Iporá is still associated with the sports practices that predominate in schools and
that, according to the teachers interviewed, are valued by both students and teachers in the area.
In addition, there is a feeling of devaluation of the work of the Physical Education teacher
within the school context. It was also possible to perceive that there is a lack of theoretical
knowledge among the majority of the interviewees involving the approaches and pedagogical
trends of Physical Education. Finally, the aspects analyzed during the research point to the need
for even more in-depth studies from a dialectical perspective, as these are complex contexts
that present characteristics of social relations that are also complex.
