Espaço vivido: dinâmicas socioespaciais das ruas principais de cidades pequenas em Goiás

Abstract

The cities of Morrinhos, Piracanjuba, Ipameri, and Pires do Rio, along with the municipality of Caldas Novas, play complementary territorial and economic roles. In this context, Caldas Novas acts as a regional economic hub, offering tourism-oriented services and maintaining connections with the four surrounding cities studied. The main objective of this study is to understand how the main streets of four small towns located in the southern part of the state of Goiás, Brazil, articulate socio-spatial dynamics through their centralities and lived spaces, encompassing typical everyday situations. The scope of the concepts and contexts presented in this research ranges from urban configuration and networks of influence among small towns, drawing on François Perroux (1961, 1981) and Milton Santos (1979, 2005, 2008, 2011), to discussions on the role of main streets over time and the role of commerce in social relations. This approach emphasizes main streets as central and vibrant urban spaces. Extensive data collection methods were used, including participant observation, subjective accounts, route mapping, and short video production. This dissertation adopts a methodological approach that moves from the macro to the micro scale, highlighting the lived space of main streets, their centrality as a determining element in urban space, and their influence on the imagination and daily lives of small town residents. These networks, known in this research as a "city-region," generate relationships within a network of cities. The results tend to obtain a general overview of the urban liveliness of the main streets of small cities, taking into account their territorial particularities, geographic, historical, demographic and cultural contexts, which also proved to be a study applicable to other contexts and locations
