Territórios de Beiras: um estudo das relações entre o Rio Araguaia e a cidade de Aragarças, Goiás

Abstract

The present research focuses on the study of the relationships between the Araguaia River and the city of Aragarças, GO, shaped by the processes of use and occupation of its margins throughout history. The Araguaia River serves as a stage for historical events in the region and has also enabled the formation of territories defined by the interests of specific social groups. Within this context, the research seeks to understand the role of the Araguaia River in shaping and producing the urban spaces of Aragarças, Goiás, through the identification and mapping of the territories and territorialities currently found in the city, which consequently create and simulate new forms of living and representation. Thus, the study aims to identify, through a historical approach, the transformations that have occurred over time as shaped by the river-city relationship, to characterize the inhabited spaces and everyday practices of local residents and tourists, and to broaden the debate and understanding of the use and appropriation of the Araguaia River as a cultural symbol and representation of a region and its people.
