WithouZ denying the expresçiveness ofhn art, or the pmibility that emotions and feelings may be 'expressed' in art, the article calls one's anention to the partiality, mutability, contextuality and historieity of the idea jn question. These points are suggested as important to rwiew lhe idea of 'arl as the expression of feelings and ernotions,' making its function relatim and redimensioning its role in teaching art.Item Crítica de arte: especificidade da arte funerária no Brasil e a interdisciplinaridade das suas formas de exposição(Luis Edegar de Oliveira Costa, 2003) Borges, Maria EliziaThe object of this article is to analysc funeral art and its forms of exhibit, steaming from two factors: the adopted proccdures for curatorship of the exhibit "Funeral Art: The producrion ol the marbleyards o! These two cultures created resistance to the legitimation and development of the human sciences and, particularly, of the arts in the university. An analysis of these cultures, their process of development and influence on the organization of knowledge at the university are the focal points of this paper. The historical notion of ‘crisis’ as an identity crisis of science takes to a revision of concepts. The study discusses the notion of identity and how the two cultures marked, by difference and/or exclusion, the relations of power in science. Three concepts from the philosophy of science – capta, data and acta – are revisited and proposed as ways to reinvent art’s and science’s identities in the present context of the university culture.Item Brasil, 1833: a descoberta da fotografia revisitada(Luis Edegar de Oliveira Costa, 2004-06) Monteiro, Rosana HorioThis paper examines photography as a particular case of a multiple discovery. It concerns an original photographic process developed last century in Brazil, simultaneously and independently from other processes developed with the same aim mostly in Europe. A detailed reconstruction of this process created by the Frenchman Hercule Florence is performed by directly inves-tigating his manuscripts and other original documents of the period. Combining elements from the Mertonian theory of discovery and science studies, I argue that the local peri-pheral circumstances areembodied in the final form of Florence’s process: a photographic process without a camera obscura.Item A vingança de Polifemo: o sujeito como artifício, o monstro como estado artístico e a pragmática da subjetividade. A arte e a “polifemia”(Luis Edegar de Oliveira Costa, 2004-06) Noronha, Márcio PizarroThe article is a reflection on the song IX of “Odisséia” (Homero) and their interpretative relationships with the contemporary theories of the subjectivity, of the monstruosity and the contemporary art.Item Série Peixes: experimentais em gravura(Luis Edegar de Oliveira Costa, 2004-06) Clímaco, José CésarAn account of the research process of individual artistic language on engraving, based on the use of plastic sheets as moulds and ists printing. The article below describes the experiments carried out intending to confirm and go further into the results achieved – the plastic’s expression possibilities – in the paperwork for the PhD thesis conceived and concluded in Spain a year before, as well as to try and conpare to the nacional plastics. This process created about thirty engravings, which were called the “piscies’ serie” and were displayed in two differennt exhibitions, in Goiânia and Brasilia.Item Arte e ciência no século XIX: um estudo em torno da descoberta da fotografia no Brasil(2004-12) Monteiro, Rosana HorioThis paper examines the relationship between ar! and science in the discovery of photography. It is about an original photographic process created by lhe Frenchman Hercule Florence in the 19th century Brazil, simultaneously and independently from other processes developed mostly in Europe. A detailed reconstruction of this process is reached by directly investigating his manuscripts and orher original documents of the period. Combining elements from the Mertonian theory of discovery and science studies, l argue that the local peripheral circumstances are embodied in the final form of Florence's process: a photographic process without a camera obscura.Item Imagens de nós e dos outros nos filmes de ficção científica(Luis Edegar de Oliveira Costa, 2004-12) Martins, Alice FátimaA significant population of foreigners inhabits the cinematographic narratives since the beginning of times. Especially the fictional-scientific ones, which have reserved privileged representation spaces of the other, or the others, to whom monstrous nature is attributed. In the battles against these enemies, the communities self-appointed as us, representatives of the humanity, are in fact restricted to the social groups that hold the highest economical, technological and armed power. In the narratives analyzed in this article, the North-American society appears as the representative of humanity as a whole, in the battle against the threat brought by the others, who might well be the neighbors, immigrants, blacks, any foreigner, from unknown lands or from its own. All of them, aliens, allegedly invasive, against whom the attack is the best defense strategy.Item Variações em torno dos jogos estéticos, artísticos e pedagógicos no ensino “superior” de artes visuais(Luis Edegar de Oliveira Costa, 2005-06) Guimarães, LedaThis article discuss art at higher education context considering the idea of multiculturalism as “to learn and to see through borders” (Hughes, 1993, p.84). The established border as the tension point for this study comprehends the concepts on ‘erudite’, ‘popular’ and ‘folk’, taking them as susceptible to ‘expansion’ , ‘encounters’ and ‘articulation’ steaming from experiences in the teaching in a critically way. The dichotomies that have been separating art universes will be treated, as cause of tensions that processes hybrid spaces, beneficial to alternative propositions within a critical pedagogical approach.Item Entre contingências e experiências vividas... propostas para pensar um ensino crítico de artes visuais(Luis Edegar de Oliveira Costa, 2005-06) Martins, Raimundo; Tourinho, IreneCritical thinking and teaching have been receiving attention from teachers and researchers in the field of education but, less so, from visual arts teachers. Today’s paradoxes – global/local, private/public, identity/difference, knowledge/feelings - require critical theorization in order to help us articulate teaching practices with the social, political and cultural issues that constitute them. This paper presents and discusses three critical proposals to think the curriculum construction in visual arts. Answering to the necessity to especulate and open epistemological ways that offer possibilities for art teachers to engage with critical practices, issues such as ‘power’, ‘knowledge’, ‘identity’, ‘daily life’ and ‘affects’ are stressed in this discussion.Item Aspectos culturais do uso do desenho reproduzido no processo de alfabetização(Luis Edegar de Oliveira Costa, 2005-08) Martins, Alice FátimaIn this article, the printed drawings¸ considered as visual media of communication, are discussed in the ways they take part of school, influencing the processes of teaching and learning, in order to analyze the cultural aspects concerned in its uses. The study is based on a qualitative research developed in the first year class of the school where the researcher studied. Her everyday work, the relations between her and the children, her initial formation, and the ways the printed drawings take part of all these processes constitutes the focus of discussion and analyses.Item Imagens do pensamento sobre o ritmo no cinema(Luis Edegar de Oliveira Costa, 2005-12) Mello, CleliaThis work aims to articulate insights between image and sound from the movie The Cook, the Thief, his Wife and her Lover (1989) from British director Peter Greenaway, investigating the performance from a poetic angle.
