This work aims to discuss the importance of Paulo Freire's ideas for the education, especially Youth and Adult Education (EJA), in addition to explaining the main concepts defined by Freire in the selected works for the elaboration of the job and to discuss the importance of its “method” for Youth and Adult Education (EJA). Approaches the story of Paulo Freire, youth and adult education, Paulo Freire “method”, illiteracy and education for liberation, banking education, dialogue, awareness and liberation. For this, we carried out exploratory research with a qualitative approach, built through a bibliographical research, using as main source the following works by Paulo Freire: *Pedagogy of the Oppressed (2013), Pedagogy of autonomy (2011), Education as a practice of freedom (1967) and Awareness: theory and practice of liberation (2008). We consider the significant contributions by Paulo Freire, as he contributed to the constitution of a pedagogy that promotes reflection, which advocates as fundamental the relationship between education and human and social training, for the liberation of subjects. We consider that Paulo Freire consolidated his pedagogy in the history of education and became synonymous with pedagogy of love. The author makes us reflect, until today, on an education that is based on autonomy, awareness and freedom, which enables subjects to intervene in social reality.
