Resumo

This paper analyzes the performance of the reading rooms of public schools in Goiânia – Goiás. For its theoretical basis were discussed some aspects of reading such as reading concept, importance of reading, reading functions reading, strategies of reading in the school environment, and reading situations in Brazil. The guiding question concerns the behavior of the auxiliary reading room, analyzing their preparation to assume the position, the strategies developed and the difficulties faced in developing the activities. To this end, we performed data collection. Data for the analysis were collected through a questionnaire applied along with aides and reading room. The research showed that the training received is not sufficient for the activities related to the function of the reading room to develop efficiently, especially in the use of reading strategies, despite the efforts of some helpers to promote efficient reading practices.
