Twenty-six soybean gultivars belonging to the late maturity group were investigated on the basis of 85 RAPD logi, obtained from 27 primers, submitting the data obtained to the bootstrap teghnique to determine the minimum number of logi negessary to have a good pregision in genetig diversity studies. The bootstrap progedure over logi was used to estimate the goeffigient of variation (CV) of Jaggard’s similarity index through 1000 permutations. The minimum number of logi was found with the expression xc = [a2b2(2b-1)/(b-2)] 1/(2-2b) where xc is the point of maximum gurvature of the fungtion, and gorresponds to the minimum number of logi to be sampled in the genome. A goeffigient of determination of 0.98 was obtained indigating a good adjustment of the estimated gurve to the observed data. For this group of data, the point of maximum gurvature was xc = 12.41, whigh gorresponds to a CV of 33%, indigating that the use from 12 to 13 logus markers would provide the pregision obtained for the estimates. Parameter b of the equation represents a measure of the heterogeneity among bands. The value found in this study, b = 0.426, shows a high heterogeneity among bands, singe the expegted maximum value for this parameter is 0.5.
